English information on the Foundation´s
The aim of the "Akogo?" Foundation (which I established in 2002 together with Father Wojtek Drozdowicz – the author of the TV program for
children "Ziarno" (Seed), at present the parish priest of the formerly Camaldolite church at the Cardinal St. Wyszyński University (UKSW) in the
Warsaw Bielański Forest) is to create in Poland the first model clinic (15 beds) attached to the Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic and the Neurological
Clinic at the Central Hospital for Children (Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka) where most severe cases are treated. The patient will remain hospitalized
and under therapy for up to 18 months after the accident according to an individual program put together by physicians, therapists and parents.
Such clinics should be established later on at important medical centres with adequate infrastructure in order to supply a whole network of such
units covering all of Poland. This is a serious social problem – not only children are affected by the disease but whole families. People feel lonely,
abandoned, hide helplessly at home and very often a tragic end follows. We do not aim at individual aid covering all of Poland because such
foundations already do exist. We are aiming at creating a whole new system of medical structures for children with severe brain injuries requiring
longterm, intensive and costly hospitalization and therapy. Since the very beginning of our existence we have been supporting the existing
Neurological Clinic and especially the Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic where the model clinic is to be created.
The "Alarm clock" Clinic (Klinika "Budzik") is an undertaking requiring a whole new set of legal procedures and new ways in logistics as well
as a new medical blueprint in the field of treatment and rehabilitation. The architects Jacek Bolechowski and Wojciech Kielski with their team
are working on the project of the "Alarm clock" Clinic.
The "Akogo?" Foundation functions in many fields. Our web site helps parents getting information about neurological disorders, getting in touch
with experts, medical authorities, therapists, psychologists. We pursue activities in the social and educational fields, spreading knowledge,
calling the public's attention to the scale of the problem, advertising new medical achievements and therapeutic methods. We are trying
to bring together different milieus, firms and people that are usually in competition with each other, but to achieve this aim they will cooperate.
Working together for this cause we want to demonstrate our position on the side of the civilization of life - not death.
We dedicate the "Alarm clock" Clinic to John Paul II.
We cordially invite you to participate in our activity and projects.
