Past, present and future of the treatments for vegetative, comatose and motor dysfunction in Japan
Tetsuo KANNO

Medicine is changing very rapidly and dramatically, today.
There are much more old aged patients, they want to live longer healthy life, they want to detect their diseases at very, very early stage, they want to have less invasive treatments, and they want to have much more active life even after treatments.

New neuro rehabilitation has been developing today, according to these people’s requests, such as dorsum column stimulation (DCS), deep brain stimulation (DBS), stem cell implantation, transcranial magnetic stimulation (t-CMS) etc.

We have developed DBS and t-CMS. At this conference, we’d like to introduce these treatments (new neuro rehabilitation) for vegetative patients, motor weakness, dementias etc. according to our experienced date.

At the same, we have been doing some international medical supports through WFNS (World Federation of Neurosurgical Surgery), ACNS (Asian Congress of Neurosurgical Surgery) and JIMCO (Japan International Medical Cooperation Organization) under Japanese governmental supports, particularly for the weak people in the developing countries mainly in Asia.
We’d like to introducethese activities, too.
